製品説明

Wool-Like Acrylic Fiber for Sweaters and Blankets

Product Introduction

Acrylic Fiber, often referred to as imitation wool or acrylic fiber in China, is a synthetic fiber highly regarded for its hand feel, warmth, and softness, which closely resemble those of wool. Its core characteristics can be understood from the following aspects:

Definition and Composition: By international standards, Acrylic Fiber is defined as a fiber made from chain-synthetic polymers composed of at least 85% acrylonitrile. If the acrylonitrile content ranges from 35% to 85%, it is classified as Modacrylic Fiber. This fiber was first commercially produced by DuPont in 1950 under the trade name "Orlon."

Production Process: Acrylic fibers are primarily manufactured through wet spinning or dry spinning. The process involves dissolving a copolymer, obtained by polymerizing acrylonitrile with other monomers, in a solvent to form a spinning solution. This solution is then extruded through a spinneret and coagulated into filaments.

Core Characteristics: This fiber possesses a series of excellent properties.

  • Wool-like Hand Feel: It is lofty and soft, exhibiting a warmth and luster similar to wool, making it very comfortable to the touch.

  • Lightweight and Warm: The fiber has a low density (1.16-1.18 g/cm³) and good thermal insulation properties, providing excellent warmth retention.

  • Weather and UV Resistant: It has exceptional resistance to UV degradation, offering good sunlight resistance and weatherability.

  • Chemical Stability: It resists chemical agents, withstanding weak acids, weak alkalis, most organic solvents, and attacks from microorganisms such as mold and insects.

  • Dimensional Stability: It has good wrinkle resistance and is easy to wash and dry quickly.

  • Main Limitations: It is prone to static electricity and pilling, has average durability, and is sensitive to heat, melting or burning when exposed to high temperatures.

Application

Leveraging its comprehensive performance, acrylic fiber finds applications in a wide range of fields.

In the apparel and clothing sector, it serves as an ideal substitute for wool and is widely used in manufacturing sweaters, coats, sportswear, socks, linings, and hats. It can be used pure or blended with other fibers like wool and cotton to weave various wool-like fabrics.

In the household textiles sector, it is commonly used to produce blankets, carpets, curtains, cushions, and stuffed toys. Its good abrasion resistance makes it suitable for carpets, while its excellent lightfastness and vibrant color retention make it an ideal choice for curtains.

In the outdoor and industrial sectors, the application of acrylic fiber is particularly prominent. It holds over 90% of the market share for outdoor textile fabrics and is widely used in producing awnings, patio umbrellas, tents, boat covers, and other outdoor products, thanks to its unparalleled weatherability. Additionally, it is used in manufacturing industrial items such as automotive headliners, geotextiles, and filter materials. For instance, in composite materials, chopped acrylic fibers can serve as anti-sag agents and reinforcing materials to prevent product cracking or deformation.

In the specialty and advanced materials sector, through functional finishing, acrylic fibers can be endowed with special properties such as antibacterial, flame-retardant, water-repellent, and antistatic features. More importantly, polyacrylonitrile fiber is the primary precursor for producing carbon fiber. After processes like oxidation and carbonization, it can be transformed into high-performance carbon fiber used in aerospace, sports equipment, and other high-tech fields. Furthermore, hollow acrylic fibers can be used in manufacturing medical devices such as artificial kidney dialyzers.
